A Message From The Presidentby Al Dettweiler - August 2011Aloha, Your board has been busy over the past few months working on a few projects. The recreation committee had a community meeting for updating the community park. There were many suggestions and projects discussed for the future. The upgrading of the pavilion, repairing and adding bathrooms and kitchen areas. Ball field plans, and fixing part of the walking path and replacing shrubs' along Moku St. The first thing that the committee agreed to do is replace the shrubs and upgrade the appearance of Moku St. They also approved the upgrading of the walking trail, both the path and shrubs', will be addressed immediately, the bathrooms and pavilion will be tabled till there are more funds in the recreation fund. The board purchased a new Case tractor and Tiger cutter with a side mount boom. This will replace our tractor and boom mower that needed to be replaced. The equipment we have now was purchased back in 1993 and is now starting to need major repairs and maintenance. This new equipment will make the cutting back forest from our roadways more productive and also give us the ability to reach further into the overgrowth. This will improve the overall appearance of our roads. There has been some safety problems about trees overhanging our roadways. We ask the lot owners to please cut back and remove these trees if they are growing from their property. If you would like to have the association remove them, please call the office @ 965-9555. We appreciate your co-operation. We are almost there, the cell tower was planned to be installed around December. On August 4th, there was a meeting with the planning commission to approve the USE PERMIT APPLICATION. This permit requires approval of the planning commission before the cell tower can move forward. Part of the process requires that all the lot owners within 500 ft must be notified by the developer and if any lot owners have an objection to voice them at the August 4th meeting. There was one lot owner that said that he was concerned about the loss of property value. The planning commission granted this lot owner a contested case hearing to be held on October 6, 2011. This will delay the cell tower till February. All of the emergency services said they would send testimony to the planning commission, that is County Fire, Police and Civil Defense also Puna Geothermal Venture. Schedule of Events
